By the end of the Monday night celebration, Dream On had once again transformed generosity into impact, raising more than $1.2 million in 2024 alone.

For more than four decades, Promises2Kids has supported children in foster care throughout San Diego County through programs focused on connection, education, mentorship, and long-term stability. Their annual Dream On Concert Gala has become one of the region’s premier fundraising events by creating an experience that is both mission-focused and genuinely fun.

Why Monday Works

Most galas compete for crowded weekends. Dream On intentionally chose Monday night.

The strategy has become part of the event’s identity. Holding the gala on a Monday allows the organization access to premium production schedules, vendor availability, and entertainment opportunities while helping the event stand apart from the busy Southern California social calendar.

And it works.

Year after year, the event sells out with more than 500 guests attending an evening built around generosity, hospitality, music, and purpose. Sponsors, hosted tables, longtime supporters, and community leaders gather knowing this is not simply another fundraiser. Dream On feels rare, curated, and deeply intentional.

In 2024, the event raised $1.2 million. In 2025, Dream On surpassed that milestone, raising $1.37 million with another sold-out crowd. Planning for 2026 is already underway.

Transforming a Private Estate Into a Concert Venue

Perched atop Mount Soledad with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding mountains, the Estate Home of Joan Waitt provides an unforgettable backdrop for the evening.

Joan Waitt’s generosity extends far beyond opening her home. Her support of Promises2Kids and its mission has helped create one of San Diego’s most meaningful philanthropic traditions.

What begins as a stunning private estate transforms into a full-scale outdoor concert venue complete with professional staging, advanced lighting, elegant outdoor dining spaces, VIP experiences, and immersive production throughout the property.

The setup itself is a production.

Teams begin transforming the estate on Friday and Saturday. Sunday is dedicated to lighting evaluations, production testing, and final preparations before guests arrive Monday evening to an experience that feels seamless from beginning to end.

VIP and General Programming Mix and Mingle

VIP experiences include a private tequila tasting and a poolside meet and greet, which begins 1 hour prior, where the Dream Makers gather and mingle.

The evening unfolds with thoughtful pacing:

  • Dream On Concert Reception: Guests arrive at 5:30 PM for cocktails, silent auction bidding, and socializing throughout the estate grounds.
  • Dinner & Program: At 6:45 PM, attendees gather for dinner, mission moments, live auction excitement, and paddle raise giving.
  • Concert Finale: Immediately following the program, the estate transforms once again into a private concert venue under the night sky.

Mission-Focused and Fun

What makes Dream On especially memorable is how intentionally the mission is woven throughout the event experience.

While the concert, dining, and auction experiences create excitement and energy, the heart of the evening always comes back to the children and youth served by Promises2Kids.

One of the most emotional highlights of the event is the Camp Connect activation area.

Camp Connect reunites brothers and sisters who have been separated within the foster care system through residential summer camp experiences and year-round activities. For many foster children, separation from siblings is one of the most painful parts of entering care. Camp Connect gives these children the opportunity to reconnect, build memories together, and strengthen family bonds.

At Dream On, guests experience this mission in a deeply personal and visual way.

Last year’s activation featured a lush greenery backdrop adorned with hand-painted butterflies created by the children themselves. Guests could purchase the butterflies as part of the fundraising efforts, but the installation became much more than décor.

It became a symbol of transformation, hope, and connection.

The butterflies created a beautiful focal point throughout the evening while serving as a powerful reminder that behind every paddle raise, sponsorship, and auction bid are children longing for stability, belonging, and time with their siblings.

The activation perfectly reflected what Dream On does so well. The event is elegant and entertaining, but it never loses sight of why everyone is gathered there in the first place.

Signature Auction Experiences

Dream On’s live auction is anchored by extraordinary experiences that create excitement throughout the evening, while inspiring generous bidding.

  • Private Culinary Experience for 24: One standout package featured an unforgettable private dining experience at Pamplemousse Grille with Chef Jeffrey Strauss. Guests would enjoy a personalized multi-course menu paired with exceptional wines in an evening designed exclusively for the winning bidders and their guests.
  • Private Dinner at the Estate Home of Joan Waitt: Another featured package offered an intimate five-course dinner for eight overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Chef Jeffrey Strauss curated the menu while wine and cocktail pairings elevated the experience even further.
  • Kool & The Gang Meet-and-Greet: Music lovers had the opportunity to bid on a private meet-and-greet with the Grammy Award-winning group along with a personalized signed guitar, creating an unforgettable keepsake from the evening.

Additional auction experiences have included Montana resort stays, international travel opportunities, Formula 1 experiences in Italy, and donated airfare packages that continue to elevate the excitement and generosity surrounding the live auction.

The Concert Everyone Talks About

As the live program concludes and the final paddle raise moments settle in, Dream On transforms once again.

Dream On’s concert finale is not background entertainment tucked into the corner of a ballroom. It is a full-scale production with professional staging, concert lighting, sound engineering, and immersive energy that rivals major entertainment venues.

More Than a Gala

The success of Dream On reflects more than strong fundraising strategy or entertainment value. It reflects decades of trust, leadership, and impact within the community.

Originally founded over 45 years ago as the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation of San Diego County, Promises2Kids has spent decades supporting children removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.

Today, the organization annually serves more than 2,000 current and former foster youth throughout San Diego County through life-changing programs and services.

  • Camp Connect: reunites brothers and sisters who are separated in the foster care system through a residential summer camp and frequent day activities.
  • Guardian Scholars: helps current and former foster youth pursue their career aspirations by supporting them through their vocational training, community college or university education.
  • Foster Futures: is a bridge to stability that aims to tackle homelessness among former foster youth by providing prevention-based resources and opportunities for high-risk individuals.
  • Mentoring: matches foster children ages 5-18 with mentors who will listen, support, and guide them, as they grow and develop.
  • Foster Funds: are special funds set up to support needs not met through typical funding. Foster children often feel alone and isolated and may go without simple pleasures of childhood such as a sports uniform, a musical instrument, or extracurricular activities.

Last year alone, the organization assisted over 200 former foster youth pursuing higher education or careers through Guardian Scholars, and over 100 siblings through Camp Connect experiences.
